About Us
This group of artists was founded over 40 years ago on Thursday, 17th November 1966. Starting as a small group of far sighted people, it grew quickly to a solid cooperative. The Creativity Centre Inc. then was established with its original gallery, at 119 Bennetts Road, Norman Park, and continued there for over 20 years.
Where We Are Now
Today’s members resolved to modernise the centre and chose to open the gallery as Scattered Arts at 1/6 Newman Avenue in the trendy Martha Street Complex. The concept of Scattered Arts evolved as a co-operative effort of members along with Sheryl Anderson, Arts Coordinator from Brisbane City Council, who facilitated an outstanding think-tank on our new image.
Our Future Aspirations
Where will we be in another forty years?
Through all the years, the aim of the group has stayed the same – to provide an outlet for artists and crafts people from the community to exhibit and learn, as well as provide public enjoyment and education in the arts. There has always been a standards committee to maintain high quality.
Our responsibility to memory of those who built the foundations is to carry on, changing to suit the climate that is the Art Community of Brisbane and to follow the vision of our group and inspire those who follow us that this is a vision worth continuing on and on.
How Do We Work?
The gallery is run purely by voluntary roster system and has an annual membership with a fixed commission on sale of works to help pay for rent and running of the gallery.
The Creativity Centre Inc. now trading as Scattered Arts anticipates that, with the impressive membership base it has at the present time, along with future members, it will be a force to reckon with on the Brisbane art scene.
“Raise your glasses to the good ship Scattered Arts and all those who sail her.
Long may she live!”
